2022: Billikens and Budai; Year of the Slurfies

It's been a long while since my last post. I haven't died yet! Things have just gotten complicated and busy is all. I'm approaching a new horizon in my life, restarting it all yet again, and hopefully things will get better from this point on. I say that, but of course the future is always uncertain.

Above is my New Years altar, filled with Billikens and Budai, Slurfies and anime girls and all my favorite little toy novelties. All brought together in hopes to gather enough cosmic power to bring us all luck for 2022. Heaven knows we really need it. So, with prayers mumbled I wish you all a very prosperous New Year.

But yeah Slurfies. You know Slurfies. don't you? Of course you do you've seen them before if you are of a certain again. Little soft plastic monster toys they used to have in vending machines way back in the day. It was for a while a very common thing you could get for a few cents, but now they cost a few dollars to purchase via places like eBay. You could get them in the same vending machines that had little containers of slime, rubber bats, play jewelry, and holographic stickers. Those were the glory days if you ask me.

I recently discovered this amazing online shop called Greasy Creeps and I am totally in love with their stock. It's a combination of vintage toys (oilys, jigglers, Chinasaurs, etc.) as well as their own original designs and bootlegs. It's a satisfying feeling purchasing artisanally made Slurfies, but that's just my life now. Wondrous.

To be totally honest I've been spoiled with absolute treasures this year, and we're only ten days into the New Year. My friends over at the Two Witches Podcast sent me some beautiful swag along with some truly awesome toys as a belated Xmas gift. Not sure what to do with these stickers but they will go someplace special.

And also there was this amazing piece by the great artist, Cat Feather (Cat_Blether)! Inspired by the works of LaVoreGirls and VoreVids, Cat was able to conjure this piece into existence. Gotta love those teeth! I absolutely adore her work and I hope she makes more fun stuff soon.

So yeah, things feel a bit better personally. My health is improving, life is changing, and new options are opening up for me. Hopefully the same is happening to you too. Even if the world is rotting away right now we can still have a bit of fun.

2021 will be the year I learn how to properly weaponize my lethargy

I took my Billiken out for a walk on New Years Eve. I figured he would like some fresh air occasionally.

I hope that Billiken (God of Things As They Ought to Be), or any of his good fortune carrying cousins, brings you the luck you need during this new cycle. Things got weird, and they can always get weirder. A little luck goes a long way. A huge number of people prefer to ignore reason anyway, may as well put our faith in unknown forces.

We can wipe off the grime we've accumulated from the shit year that was 2020. We're all a little battle damaged, and I feel like even our therapists will need therapists at this point, but that's fine; those of us who remained can slowly ease back into some semblance of our former routines and hopefully craft newer ones for this strange new world we are in.

So, do your best this year. If there ever was a time to really hustle and get moving, this would be it. Fortune favors the bold after all. Even I have a few goals I want to reach. I wouldn't call them resolutions, mostly because they're more important to me than just that. Here's hoping I can pull them off.

All the corporate companies are pursuing sports sets and Hollywood photo sets, but rarely paint anything new or different. (Art series "fell out of fashion" in the 1990s.) That's because it's time consuming and expensive to commission new art or write original stories. They can knock out dozens of sets in the time it takes us to paint a single series. "Horror Hosts! The words usually conjure up images of ghoulish TV personalities like Elvira and Zacherley. They often wear monster make-up and appear on make-shift castle sets, interrupting older monster movies and telling us a few jokes or dark puns. But those guys are not the ones who really made horror hosts popular or famous. They were building on a grand tradition that preceded televsion completely. The original horror hosts were top-of-the-shelf talents who not only introduced, but often narrated and acted in some the most terrifying shows mass-media ever produced. They were radio dramas with horror, science fiction, or murder themes. The hosts were sometimes famous, but more often mysterious, and they always caught our attention. There was something hypnotic about them. We never actually saw them, yet we visualized them in our mind, along with the many terrors they unleashed there. They established a dark mood and eerie ambiance. They carefully set the scene for the murder, dangerous experiment, or shocking adventure. And they were usually first on the scene after the blood was spilled to chuckle and provide us with a few more gory details. Anyone who heard The Mysterious Traveler, The Whistler, or Inner Sanctum's Raymond will testify to the fact that the host was one of the main attractions of the show. It just wouldn't be the same without them."

The image of Vampira has stuck with me for over twenty years, but I never knew that I would cross paths with Maila Nurmi, who played Vampira eons before The Munsters aired."

Dolli Dimples is a former cabaret character found at Chuck E. Cheese's Pizza Time Theatre in the late 1970s and early 1980s. She sat in her own room away from the main dining area that was initially called the "Piano Bar" and later renamed to "The Cabaret". Dolli would play a song for guests for a game token. Later, the token box was replaced by a free show button and eventually was set up on a timer to perform at regular intervals automatically. Dolli was the first sideshow character the Pizza Time Theatre had. Later, other shows such as The King, Artie Antlers, and The Beagles were added. This is the last known working Dolli robot in the hands of a private collector. This channel is a chance to experience Dolli in all of her glory."
